The prototype chatbot is meant to respond “with a bit of wit”
Grok extracts current data from messages sent to X.
Elon Musk unveiled his AI bot in an attempt to undermine ChatGPT, asserting that it already outperforms ChatGPT 3.5 on a number of measures.
The first offering from Musk’s xAI firm, Grok, is currently undergoing testing with a few US users. As per the company’s website, Grok is being developed utilizing data sourced from Musk’s X, formerly known as Twitter, thereby ensuring it remains current with the latest advancements than other bots using static datasets. According to the statement, it’s also intended to respond “with a bit of wit and has a rebellious streak.”
Musk was one of the signatories to a petition earlier this year that demanded a halt to the advancement of AI models to enable the creation of common safety guidelines.
The CEO of Tesla Inc. and the billionaire owner of X said on Sunday, “I signed that letter knowing it was futile.” “I just wanted to put my recommendation for a pause on record.”
Aiming to establish guidelines for security and privacy safeguards, US President Joe Biden recently issued an executive order on AI oversight. Last week, academics and tech executives discussed the potential risks of this technology at the UK’s AI Safety Summit.
According to the xAI statement, Grok is the result of two months of work and will be made available to all X Premium+ users once it has completed testing. Musk has expressed his desire to transform X from a social network into a multipurpose app similar to Tencent Holding Ltd.’s WeChat in China. Grok would be a crucial component in creating that; although xAI is a different firm, it says it plans to collaborate closely with Tesla, X, and other companies.
